Why taking action creates positive outcomes

Updated: Sep 26, 2017

Welcome to my blog where I will share some of my life experiences and passion for the work I do and why I do what I do.

Ever wonder what is your purpose in life? or Do you choose your path, career, calling, or does life choses it for you? Are you 100% sure that you know what you want to do with your life and nothing will change your frame of mind? I'm about to answer that question thru sharing some of my life experiences. Let me start by saying that I went to college because I I wanted to be an attorney. I had this notion that I was going to be this great and awesome attorney who was going to be the voice of those less privileged whom the law considered they had no rights, fight for what is just and therefore depriving them of freedom in all aspects. Oh boy was I wrong. But I initially had this firm conviction that I really wanted to go to law school and was going to do so. Life challenged me and told me otherwise. In this case, life was right and I was wrong.

"Never allow anyone to dictate what you should do without understanding the benefits and consequences of the actions or paths you decide to take. Never take no for an answer and ALWAYS follow your intuition and dreams""Be a leader, not a follower. Be different, be unique, stand out and stand firm"

My story

Why did I chose to stay in this path. Ready for this? Here's my story that will answer that.

I got married young after dating my ex husband for little less than a year. Reasons why we married so soon are irrelevant at this point. We got engaged before the year, soon after I was pregnant and then married a few months later. Babies are always a blessing right?. In my case yes, others beg to differ. We can all agree to disagree right? Moving on. Although my pregnancy was my blessing, it was also terrible. Between morning sickness, ongoing weekly hospital visits, diagnosis of high risk pregnancy, constant negative feedback from doctors and specialists and hardly getting good news, pregnancy was anything but enjoyable or pleasant to say the least. The lack of empathy from the medical professionals when telling me results are undescribeable. I chose to hold on an prayed, constantly all day every day. It was not easy but thankfully I always had the support of my family. I was determined to beet the odds and did my research.

Be determined, persistent, know your rights, be knowledgeable of what you are being told.” "Seek assistance when needed"

A strong family and friend support system is always the first step to help you achieve goals in the process. I am so thankful that throughout my life's journey my family has been with me, helping me at any given time. This is an important part of the process. Often times I had very little motivation but I was determine even when there was not much. I had an 2 options, dwell on it and sink or move forward, stay focused and positive. I chose the second.

After the birth things didn't get better in all areas of my life. I had no guidance other than that of my family, I was lost. But I chose to move forward and challenged every obstacle I faced. Every obstacle embraced took me to the next phase. Everyone faces challenges, no one is exempt. If anyone tells you otherwise, "that they had the perfect children, perfect marriage", don't belive it. They live in their own bubble and perhaps it's worse than yours. The important thing here is that you move forward. Challenge every bad news, every obstacle, never settle for less. Understand that there is a purpose for all of that, pain, confusion, suffering is all part of the process to get you to your objective and meet that goal. Live a better life. That life that will define who you are and was meant to have. What is your objective? What is your goal. Time will guide you there in the process. Don't take the detour, it might prolong the process if you do. EMBRACE IT, LEARN FROM IT, MOVE ON. No I didn't become an attorney like I intended to. But I became something better. I BECAME ME. I help others. That's the purpose of an attorney right, or at least it's supposed to be that way. The difference is, an attorney helps in court, I help in every day life. The calling was still helping others, but in a different way. Both similar and at the same time very different.

Now, do you know what your purpose in life is, do you choose your path and career or does life chooses it for you? I think life chose this career for me. I wanted law. I wanted to be an attorney. Life chose Social Work for me and I had to go thru so much in order to gain the knowledge of what is out there, what rights individuals have, what the process is to help others, advocate for others, empower parents and individuals to help them enhance their strenghts to give their upmost potential, help children meet their needs to reach all their milestones and become productive citizens. Yes, I went to school and graduated. But the books didn't give me the knowledge and skills I today possess. Continue reading my other blogs for why I truly believe life choses your career and not the other way around.
